What is the iNetNews Service?

The SolarQuest iNetNews Service is a multimedia, project-based, experiential learning program in which students participate in and report on local, national, and international events on the theme of sustainable development. Founded in 1998 by a team of high school students reporting on the annual NESEA American Tour de Sol, the SolarQuest iNetNews Service is today internationally recognized.

From 1999 to 2001 SolarQuest collaborated with the President’s Council on Sustainable Development and the White House Millennium Council on a series of milestone events beginning with the National Town Meeting for a Sustainable America and culminating with Village Power 2000 programs in Bolivia, South Africa, and Uganda. SolarQuest is now introducing the iNetNews Service, the National Youth Roundtable and the State of the Environment Report as annual youth activities in collaboration with schools and civic organizations throughout the United States.

WHAT is State of the Environment Report, a Youth Perspective?

Thousands of Youth thoughout the United States are active in service projects that improve the quality of life and the environment in their communities. Yet these same students do not have a voice in local and national politics.

The State of the Environment Report is an annual educational program and publication giving America's youth a national voice that will be heard at every level of the political spectrum from local municipalities to the White House. The report will consist of a series of editorials, essays, investigative news reports, interviews, environmental research, and case studies of environmental service projects representing "Best Practices" designed and managed by America's youth. The State of the Environment Report will influence public policy and provide a leadership model for communities nationwide that are committed to sustainable development and protection of the environment.
